Training Committee

Any section conclave’s number one focus is training. It is a time for lodges to share ideas and programs that they have worked on in their lodge with other lodges. More importantly, it provides an opportunity for fellowship with a purpose. It is for these reasons that training is such a vital part of a successful conclave program.

This committee is responsible for organizing and overseeing the training sessions, forums, and “Meet The Man” panels that will occur on Saturday morning and afternoon. Any number of events is acceptable. Topics should vary, as this offers Arrowmen a wide variety of selection. Some topics include: lodge administration, dance team recruitment, ceremonies improvements, camping promotions, and improving Scouting within the home unit.

Each lodge will be asked to provide a trainer to present a session of his choice. This is by no means regarded as a limitation. Trainers are usually youth, but knowledgeable adults are also acceptable. Prior to the conclave, the Training Committee should contact each trainer to confirm his acceptance and progress on his presentation. Appropriate facilities should also be acquired for the session. These may include a location, electricity, and any equipment that the trainers may need.

Once the trainers are coordinated, the master training schedule may be compiled. It should include the trainers, their sessions, the times that they are offered, and their locations. The schedule must be developed in time to be published in the conclave booklet and must be included in the Winds for Saturday morning as well.

The participants who attend these sessions will learn a lot. The trainers will not have the opportunity to attend other training sessions, but they will still gain knowledge, as much of their weekend will be spent training. Thus the participants should complete an evaluation of the session in order for the trainer to learn what his merits are. It provides the opportunity for Arrowmen to improve their teaching skills.

Certificates or some other award of appreciation should be given to each trainer to recognize him for his time and efforts. This may be done at the Sunday morning business meeting. In addition, the training committee is responsible for the Conclave training award for all delegates, which includes, but is not limited to attending training sessions and forums, participating in inter-lodge activities, and/or Native American affairs events, getting the signature of the section officers, etc.

At the end of the conclave, Arrowmen leave with a lot of newly acquired information. Unfortunately, they tend to forget some of the wonderful ideas that they have learned. The “Wisdom Packet” is designed to provide each lodge with the information that was divulged during the training sessions to take home and help remind them of the ideas that they have heard. Each trainer, prior to the Conclave, will be asked to submit a handout or outline of their training session for inclusion into the “Wisdom Packets.” These packets are compiled by the training committee prior to the conclave and distributed to the lodge Key 3 at the conclave. Any positive lodge materials that have worked in one lodge may be a great resource to other lodges.
